Join us for a fun filled afternoon for the entire family – coming together to celebrate NAIDOC! The FREE event includes food and drinks, entertainment, traditional dancing, games and activities, arts and crafts, and market stalls.
Mookai has been hosting family days for years! Now, the annual family day is held as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations bringing family, community, culture and history together.
Mookai Rosie Bi-Bayan was founded to provide support for women from Cape York, NPA and Torres Strait regions coming to Cairns to birth, specifically culturally safe and health supported accommodation.
Today, services have evolved and diversified in response to the increasing need of families for comprehensive wrap-around services, addressing multiple and complex social issues and driving social impact.
Our community–integrated multidisciplinary approach is reflected in our holistic and inclusive services, with the purpose to serve all-of-family, strengthening the wellbeing of First Nations communities. Services include health-supported accommodation, primary care services, maternal health, and social and emotional wellbeing support.
The Cairns NAIDOC Committee acknowledges Traditional Custodians of the land upon which we gather and organise our NAIDOC events. We honour their knowledge of this Country and their stories. We pay respect to our Elders who have paved the way and advocate for our rights. Our respect extends to all families that now call Cairns home and their respective Countries.

The Cairns NAIDOC Committee is made up of 100% volunteers — mob and community who give their time, knowledge, and heart without pay, because standing for culture is non-negotiable.
We proudly secure government funding, corporate sponsorships, and generate ticket sales to cover the costs of delivering NAIDOC events.
But the Committee itself remains fully volunteer-run.
Every meeting, every late-night email, every big decision — it’s all carried by the hands of people committed to seeing our culture thrive.
