 The Cairns NAIDOC Elders Luncheon is a cherished annual gathering that honours the lifetime contributions, wisdom, and resilience of our Elders. It’s a heartfelt celebration of those who have paved the way—leaders, nurturers, storytellers, and warriors for justice. This special event brings generations together to share stories, connect through culture, and give thanks. With good food, music, and meaningful moments, the luncheon uplifts and recognises Elders as the heart of our communities. Their legacy continues to inspire and guide us as we walk forward, grounded in culture and deep respect for those who came before.

About the committee

The Cairns NAIDOC Committee is made up of 100% volunteers — mob and community who give their time, knowledge, and heart without pay, because standing for culture is non-negotiable.

We proudly secure government funding, corporate sponsorships, and generate ticket sales to cover the costs of delivering NAIDOC events.


But the Committee itself remains fully volunteer-run.


Every meeting, every late-night email, every big decision — it’s all carried by the hands of people committed to seeing our culture thrive.
